Why is "Country" music the go-to?

Mainly for rock stars past their prime.

This is worse than when Kid Rock and Cheryl Crow thought they could be “Country”. And it’s in rotation. I can deal with “Hootie” that wasn’t bad.

This is wrong. It has to stop.

My guess is that it appeals to aging rockers because it allows for a single instrument (or a backing band that stays in the background) and you don't have to have the best vocal range, which probably helps when you're old and used to having more instruments to camouflage your range.

Because it takes years of work and constant success for most people to graduate from being an incredible artist to being what we call “an American.”

That explanation by Bo Burnham was the first thought on my mind as soon as I read the title.

That sounds remarkably like...the first line of a country song.

Because it somehow manages to be even easier to make than modern pop

Don’t forget Kid Rock. Confession - I actually like that new Demi Lovato & Brad Paisley song. I also don’t mind Darius. At least he grew up in Charleston instead of New York City like Steven Tyler.

Because “country” radio listeners don’t seem to give a fuck about quality or depth, as long as it has things from the list in it. See: Sam Hunt, Chris Lane, Brothers Osborne

It's this. "country" songs are absurdly formulaic and simplistic.

If you’re into Red Dirt, Kevin Fowler covers this in his newest song.

I don’t even hate country music, but it’s hard to find “real” country anymore. Love me some Sturgill Simpson!

My favorite is and always will be The Band, but that's considered "Americana" now. I suggest looking at that genre.
